2001 Season - Week 21
BUMSBOWL VI
If the Superbowl was won by a thrilling drive in the last 30 seconds, so was BUMSBowl VI. When Proehl caught the TD pass and Wilkins kicked the tying PAT those 7 points for Mark tied the BUMSBowl at 20 each. And so it came down to whether the Patriots could get Marcus’s kicker into Field Goal range. They did and Marcus becomes the first owner to do the Double. Yup we’ve all been beaten by a 10 year old - twice. In the other Superbowl games Chief finally won something this year after he predicted the first scorer in the game, H had the best team scoring 29 points but it was Aaron who won most money on the evening being closest with both his half-time and full-time predictions.
A week is a long time with the BUMS
Attached is one of the favourite charts of the year giving a graphical view of your position in the league table each week. How high did you fly- how low did you go?
ALL-BUMS 2001
Tim Brown sets a new record with four appearances in the team. He is a back-up this year after starting last year. He was also a back-up in 1997 and 1999. Marshall Faulk is the number one starting Running Back for a third consecutive year while old boys Brett Favre and Jerry Rice return to the team after both starting way back in 1995.
Goodbye to a Champion
Sadly, during Superbowl week 1997 Champion Andrew Gulliford announced his retirement from the BUMS. Andrew won the Papas by a still standing record 67 point gap over 2nd place. The following year Gully came second, losing his crown by just 3 points. Gully leaves us having averaged 410 points per season (the fourth highest average). With initial plans last year to split the league into a 2:1 ratio and with Gully finishing in the top half there will be no need for re-alignment (unlike some other leagues this year).
Franchise Players and Draft Picks
Attached is a list of the owners in draft order together with their two Franchise players. A number of top scorers will be come available as Marshall Faulk, Edgerrin James, Stephen Davis, Kurt Warner and Peyton Manning are all released onto the open market.
BUMS on Seats
The Superbowl may be over but there is one last gathering scheduled for this Sunday to watch the College National Championship Game between the Miami Hurricanes and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. This is planned for 6pm at BUMS HQ.
